Norms for Worship at St. Stephen's Episcopal Church
1. We come to worship God.
2. Christ will meet us here.
3. Worship is service.
4. We learn from each other.
5. We create a safe environment.
a. All of us will gather in the Nave of the Church. Formation teachers will adjourn to the church.
a. Eucharist is the central act of our worship and we invite everyone to come forward to receive… a blessing, bread, wine.
b. We don’t think any condition keeps us from meeting Christ: age, handicapping condition, ADHD.
a. Everyone is invited to have a role in worship that matches their gifts and readiness.
b. We absorb what we practice; children and youth will be encouraged to be responsible for appropriate parts of our worship so they learn to serve.
a. We are whole when all generations are present.
b. Children and youth benefit from having meaningful relationships with adults other than their parents. Children and youth may sit with other adults.
a. We ensure that the physical, emotional, and spiritual safety of all who come to us. Safeguarding practices are mandatory. Children and young people cannot be left to wander throughout the building unattended by an adult.
b. It takes a village… Discipline of children is the responsibility of parents; maintaining our norms as a community of faith is the responsibility of all.
