Giving to St. Stephen's
You are hearing from friends stories about St. Stephen’s - what prompts members of our community to connect with us. The Vestry and School Board have recently adopted six core values that define and inform who we are and what we care about.
Core Values do not inform only who we are and what we care about. They also engage us on how we spend our money. St. Stephen’s budget demonstrates our values. What we value is reflected in our budget as the radar graphic illustrates.
The Vestry has set a goal of $650,000 for 2014. That is a seven-percent increase. That increase comes from the needs of our GROWTH. That increase comes from the immediacy of CAMPUS MAINTENANCE That increase comes from our having to pay bigger bills to light and cool our facilities. That increase comes from FAIR COMPENSATION of the best talent to serve our parish. However, we recognize in our community, it's not just a salaries, the building and grounds, or even Sunday school supplies. We give to what we VALUE.
The biblical standard for giving is 10% (a tithe). Few of us start there. We encourage everyone to begin that process by giving a portion of their income and growing through this spiritual practice. Through our financial support, the work of the church is carried out locally, regionally, and globally. Check out our Electronic Giving Frequently Asked Questions.
Time and Talent
Stewardship is a deliberate and conscious effort to see and acknowledge that every good thing comes from God; that we are entrusted to use all these things wisely and with great care, and to give them back to God with increase. Our challenge, as good stewards, is to discover our gifts and strengths; then to give generously of our time, talent and treasure out of love for God. Stewardship is the way we choose to live our lives as disciples. If you'd like to contribute your time or talent, please complete our registration form.
Environmental stewardship is a growing area of stewardship at St. Stephen's. We compost, recycle, and host many organizations in the Houston community which advocate for care of the planet.
Stewardship is for everyday need but the Endowment provides for the future life of St. Stephen's. The Endowment fund receives gifts and bequests of any size. There is a board that oversees our investment and disbursement from the fund. The current ministries are funded by the interest on the investment's principal. We encourage people to remember St. Stephen's in their wills. For more information, please contact the church office at 713-528-6665.
