Foyer Dinner Registration is open
“Foyers” or “Foyer Dinners” is the name we use for informal dinner gatherings held monthly to allow St. Stephen’s community members to get to know one another and to get to know newcomers in an informal, friendly setting.
Foyer groups are open to the entire community of St. Stephen’s. While new Foyers groups are organized during Lent you may join a Foyers group any time during the year.
Foyer dinners are usually held on Friday, Saturday, Sunday or a weekday evening each month in the homes of volunteer Foyer hosts and occasionally at a convenient restaurant. Groups are kept small with only 8 to 10 in each. New Foyer groups are formed during Lent and then the group meets each month for about a year until the following Lent when new groups are formed. We recommend that parishioners who have been in Foyer groups for a few years to sign up for a different day this year to make it more likely that your 2017-18 group will include different people.
Questions or concerns about Foyers may be directed to Laura Thewalt, Foyers Coordinator ( 713-906-3128)
The sign up for 2017-2018 Foyers is live for the next two-three weeks. New groups will be formed in Eastertide and begin meeting in late May/early June.
Last year’s Foyers members will receive the email invitation to complete an online signup form. You may also contact Laura directly to sign up.
Foyers isn’t for everyone ~ just for people who like people!
We asked past Foyers participants to share their thoughts as to “why people would join a Foyers group each year just to share a meal?” Here is what they had to say…
"Wow, people are great and the food is wonderful"
"Folks are so supportive and nice"
"It is part of my spiritual growth to join with similarly minded people."
“I have a great time; it's a lot of fun”
“To have a bonding experience and support each other”
“Forging relationships that continue beyond the one Foyers year”
“I think the beauty of Foyers for a newcomer is that it is a quick, painless way to make new friends”
“Gives me a chance to be hostess now and then, which I enjoy doing”
“It puts me on a schedule to clean up my apartment”
