Daniel 2:17-30 ¨ Psalm 119:1-24 ¨ 1 John 2:12-17 ¨ John 17:20-26
Neither for these alone do I pray (it is not for their sake only that I make this request), but also for all those who will ever come to believe in (trust in, cling to, rely on) Me through their word and teaching…
— John 17:20
I read this selection in several different versions of the Bible, and when I read this one version there was one word difference – “all those who ever come to believe”. That is you and me! Imagine that even as he walked and talked and breathed on this earth, Jesus was praying for you and me.
Jesus prayed this passage as he instructed His disciples before entered the garden where Judas would betray him. It makes me wonder, how often I am in the garden, ready to betray him? How easy it is to be swept up in the moments of my world, my life, and forget that this man of God, this God of man, prayed for me as he approached his death. I need to accept this gift from him.
I pray that I believe in, trust in, cling to, rely on Him more fully and completely.

Leslie Brown began attending at St. Stephen’s in January of 2012: “I have been searching for a faith home that welcomed me and my questions of both mind and heart. I have found a home and have felt my faith grow at St. Stephen’s. My husband Buster and I have joined into the parish, and find ourselves eager and engaged with this vibrant community.”
