I also try to be prepared to celebrate the many blessings of adolescent life, taking every bit of good news as seriously as does the student who delivers it. To adults, a budding teenage romance or a hard-fought victory on the playing field may not seem earth-shaking, but these things can be the highs on the roller-coaster ride of adolescence. Being prepared to rejoice with those who rejoice and to weep with those who weep has borne fruit for me in my relationships with students.
