Giving to St. Stephen's
And now I commend you to God and to the message of his grace, a message that is able to build you up and to give you the inheritance among all who are sanctified. I coveted no one's silver or gold or clothing. You know for yourselves that I worked with my own hands to support myself and my companions. In all this I have given you an example that by such work we must support the weak, remembering the words of the Lord Jesus, for he himself said, "It is more blessed to give than to receive." ' Acts 20:32-35
This fall, we will invite you to reflect on the community of St. Stephen's Episcopal Church and the ways being a part of this community of faith blesses you. Perhaps it is the rich liturgical offerings or the sacred space to be and to reflect. Maybe it is the way we are all invited to bring all of who we are and be welcomed. To some it is the opportunity to bless others through pastoral care the Havens Center or the LGBT community. Or it is a place you are challenged through excellent preaching and Christian Formation to go out and bless others. Whatever the ways St. Stephen's Episcopal Church blesses you, this fall you will be invited to reflect on God's blessings in your life and return thanks to God.
Be a Blessing.
The biblical standard for giving is 10% (a tithe). Few of us start there. We encourage everyone to begin that process by giving a portion of their income and growing through this spiritual practice. Through our financial support, the work of the church is carried out locally, regionally, and globally. Check out our Electronic Giving Frequently Asked Questions.
Time and Talent
Stewardship is a deliberate and conscious effort to see and acknowledge that every good thing comes from God; that we are entrusted to use all these things wisely and with great care, and to give them back to God with increase. Our challenge, as good stewards, is to discover our gifts and strengths; then to give generously of our time, talent and treasure out of love for God. Stewardship is the way we choose to live our lives as disciples. If you'd like to contribute your time or talent, please complete our registration form.
Environmental stewardship is a growing area of stewardship at St. Stephen's. We compost, recycle, and host many organizations in the Houston community which advocate for care of the planet.
Stewardship is for everyday need but the Endowment provides for the future life of St. Stephen's. The Endowment fund receives gifts and bequests of any size. There is a board that oversees our investment and disbursement from the fund. The current ministries are funded by the interest on the investment's principal. We encourage people to remember St. Stephen's in their wills. For more information, please contact David Kelley or the church office at 713-528-6665.
