“I will sing praises to my God, even with my dying breath. Don't put confidence in powerful people. In a moment when they die, all their plans come to an end but the Lord will reign forever. Your God is King for every generation.” – Psalm 146:3-5
We have all just rested from a seemingly long political season, where we heard: "vote for me"," I am best", "I can get more done," as candidates claim their strengths and abilities. God's promises surpass all campaigns. God made everything in the world that exists. He gives justice to the oppressed and food to the hungry. Many of our society have been oppressed due to alienation and prejudice. But our justice will arrive and will continue, as God promised. It is obvious that I never go without food. Many do. A hunger can be for more than food. In that context I often hunger but God always provides for my needs and completely fills me.
The Lord protects the foreigners among us. We in America are continually receiving foreigners. Some of God's work is done with our hands. How are we protecting them in God's name?
God frees prisoners and opens the eyes of the blind. Often I am a prisoner of my own thoughts and blind to my own actions and behaviors. The Lord loves the righteous, which I am not, save for the cloak of Jesus Christ.
But happy are those who have God as their helper, whose hope is in the Lord their God. Recently I heard an interview of entertainer Glen Campbell's wife. She shared that Glen, who suffers from Alzheimer's, often did not remember family or friends, but always speaks of God. I will sing praises to my God even with my dying breath. So he does. Praise the Lord!
I will praise the Lord as long I live. And I will vote for God.
